Art Hub for Kids How to Draw a Realistic Bunny
For this tutorial we are going to learn how to draw a bunny step by step! If you love rabbits and ever wanted to draw one for yourself this is the tutorial for you. So grab your pencils and let's learn how to draw a rabbit!
What you'll need:
- HB (#2) Pencil, 4B pencil
- Eraser
- Drawing paper
- Drawing surface
Step 1
The first step to drawing a rabbit is that we will need to draw a large oval– almost and egg-shape, that will be the body of our bunny.
Step 2
Near the top-left of the oval, draw another circle that is roughly 1/3 the size of the previous one. This circle is going to be your rabbit's head. This circle should be about halfway inside the body of the larger circle.
Step 3
After you have the head and body of your bunny mapped out, you can add the ovals that will be its feet. As a general rule, rabbits have very small front feet, and very large rear ones. But for the sake of simplicity, we are going to make them roughly the same size.
To make the feet of your bunny, draw two small ovals that are about 1/4 the size of its head. Near the front foot, draw another small circle which will be another foot poking out from behind the front one.
Step 4
For the next step, draw a couple large, floppy ears on either side of your bunny's head. These ears can be drawn somewhat sloppily– remember, when drawing things from nature, keeping them imperfect makes them look organic and natural.
Step 5
As you can see in the image, I have erased all the guidelines from the simple shapes to connect them into one single form. I have also made the lines a little more uneven so the rabbit doesn't look like it is made up of a bunch of circles.
Be sure to divide the feet of your bunny to give it toes. Also, the head of your bunny should not be a perfect circle, but rather fairly flat on the bottom.
Step 6
If you have ever seen the face of a bunny, you know that the nose and mouth are connected. To create this, draw a shape that looks something like an uppercase "I". Shading in the top part of the "I" will distinguish rabbit's the nose from its mouth.
Step 7
Drawing your bunny's face is a two part process. To start with, we need to map out where the eyes will sit, and the contours of the bunny's head at the same time. Luckily, this is easily done by drawing an "S" shape on either side of the rabbit's head.
Step 8
At this point you can probably understand the purpose of drawing the "S" shapes in the previous step. At the top of each "S", draw a circle for the bunny's eye. As you can now see, the line extends from the rabbit's eye, and continues down the head and contours the cheeks of the rabbit.
Step 9
By now you have completed your rabbit drawing. Congrats! As you can see in the image all that is left to do is color in the bunny's eyes, and add a few small details.
A good way to add realism is to erase the outlines of your bunny and replace them with jagged lines to give the illusion of fur.
I hope you've enjoyed learning how to draw a bunny. As always, happy drawing!
